How to help
Ambassadors' Programme: NEPHELE
"In Greek mythology Nephele,
a nymph, relates to the story of Phrixus and his
twin sister Helle. Being their natural mother, she saved them from the devious
plot of their stepmother Ino, by sending a flying golden
ram to their rescue that flew over the sea bringing them
back home.
Phrixus and Helle were
instructed to not look down to earth for the duration of
their flight. Helle though, did look down, and fell off
the ram into the Hellespont (which was named after her,
meaning Sea of Helle) and drowned, but Phrixus survived
all the way to Colchis, where in gratitude he gave the
local king the golden fleece of the ram."
The Sea Turtle Protection Society launches in 2009 a special programme, named "NEPHELE" introducing
a new global community of people, the community of ARCHELON
Ambassadors!
The ARCHELON's Ambassador is
an official messenger and representative of the Society in
the country of his/her residency.
The Ambassadors are persons
who have already had past voluntary experience working
with ARCHELON in the nesting areas of Caretta-caretta sea
turtles in Greece and share the concern for their protection
and survival.
The main role of the Ambassador
is to inform other young people about the need to support
ARCHELON's important mission and also explain them how themselves
can, by helping a leading non-governmental organization devoted
to the protection and rescue of sea turtles, make an increasingly
more positive impact in the world's endangered species for
many years to come.
The Ambassadors' programme "Nephele" is
designed to
- increase the number
of young people volunteering
with ARCHELON from around the globe
- help attract
donations and raise funding for the summer field projects
and the operation of the Rescue Center
- maintain, expand
and foster ARCHELON' s current network and partnerships
with diverse communities and people, thus enhancing
our impact and our performance for positive difference
in the world.
