 | 5th December, "Global Volunteer Day", Volunteering in the midst of Crisis 04/12/2012 For 30 years, ARCHELON is receiving the help of thousands of volunteers to protect the sea turtle. Every summer, from 1983 until today, 500 people from around the world, are taking part in projects of ARCHELON in order to protect the sea turtles during their nesting season (May to October). The sea turtles of Zakynthos, Peloponnese, Crete and the Sea Turtle Rescue Centre every year receive the care of young and older people who, with a great deal of excitement, provide their knowledge and their work for this purpose.

 | First hatchlings to reach the sea at Zakynthos, 2012 24/07/2012 Hatching season has begun once more, with Sekania beach being the first to begin. On the night of July 17th 2012, one baby turtle begun its dangerous life journey, following the light of the stars and leaving its traces on the sand as a pleasant surprise for the morning observers of the beach, the ARCHELON morning survey team, working in collaboration with the Management Agent of the National Marine Park of Zakynthos. |

 | A very special nest in the Laconic Gulf area thanks to ARCHELON 02/07/2012 Something very unusual happened on Mavrovouni Beach in the Laconic Gulf.
A mother Loggerhead was unable to dig her nest successfully because she was missing her two rear flippers.
But eventually, due to the help of ARCHELON volunteers, a solution was found...

 | First sea turtle nests on Crete 18/06/2012 The first sea turtles chose Environment Day to lay their eggs on the island of Crete. On 5 June, ARCHELON volunteers recorded the first two nests for this year in the Rethymno Gulf area, i.e. on the beach of Adelianos Kambos and at Sfakaki. |

 | Beach Party on protected Natura 2000 site in Rethymno prevents Caretta caretta nesting 12/06/2012 The sea turtle nesting period in Crete began in the Rethymno Gulf area on 5 June 2012, with two nests on beaches in the area: Sfakaki and Adelianos Kambos. Unfortunately, beach parties within the Natura 2000 protected land in the area have also begun, events which affect the most significant sea turtle breeding habitat in Crete, with the result that sea turtles are prevented from nesting in the area.

 | The first Caretta caretta nest in the Gulf of Kyparissia for this season was found 29/05/2012 On Saturday, 26th May 2012 at dawn, the first Caretta caretta nest in the Peloponnese was discovered by ARCHELON volunteers who work for the protection of the Southern Kyparissia Gulf.
Since mid May, young scientists from Greece and abroad volunteer to patrol the major nesting beaches in Greece. Their task is to record and protect turtle nests and also indicate potential problems.
