English Language Teachers meet ARCHELON - 28/03/2012
Approximately 500 English language teachers from Greece and abroad were introduced to ARCHELON at the TESOL Greece 33rd Annual Convention, which took place on March 17 and 18, 2012, at the Hellenic American Union in Athens. As part of TESOL Greece’s Community Outreach Program, ARCHELON materials were distributed to all members attending the Convention, and additional information was available from the ARCHELON stand in the book exhibition area.

A professional presentation was made by TG members and ARCHELON volunteers Jane Mantarakis and Joanne Stournara. They demonstrated how English language teachers could use a field trip to the ARCHELON Sea Turtle Rescue Centre as the basis for a project-based lesson which would give students the opportunity to acquire not only knowledge about environmental issues and sea turtle protection, but also provide an excellent means of practicing their English communication skills as well as learning 21st century skills such as working together with others, decision-making, volunteerism, and others.

Visitors to the stand also had the opportunity to be informed about ARCHELON by experienced volunteers Marianna Lambrou, Sotiris Zois, Tania Pantazi, and Christiane Gottfried.

Teachers were enthusiastic about the idea of visiting ARCHELON with their classes, of acquiring an Educational Pack by adopting a turtle, and being able to download exercises for their classes from the forthcoming ARCHELON website page ‘Teacher’s Toolbox’.
