Following the successful exhibition “Freiwilligen Messe” in Tirol where 1200 people were informed about ARCHELON, we are again in action.
Taylor Allen, a fifth grade teacher is former volunteer of Lakonikos Bay project and ARCHELON ambassador for 4 years from Virginia. She still has the passion for our Society and is actually driving this day for six hours for a unique cause.
Coastal Carolina University (CCU) is hosting ARCHELON in its International Internship/Study Abroad Expo today on Tuesday February 7, 2017 between 10am-2pm. ARCHELON thanks to Taylor is presenting our volunteer opportunities to students of CCU seeking international experiences.
As Taylor says, “I absolutely loved my time with Archelon for so many reasons. Firstly, I love sea turtles. They are majestic creatures that deserve our respect and protection. I also love the beach more than anything else in the world, and through this program I was able to explore, clean, and protect valuable Greek coastline. I also love meeting people from all over the world, and this experience was an incredible melting pot of volunteers. I met likeminded environmentalists from all corners of the globe, and I have maintained relationships with so many of the people I worked with while in Greece. I've even been to Hong Kong to visit friends I made while volunteering. Our time together was made more meaningful because of the community we built while volunteering together. We made meals for one another, explored the area, traveled together, and spent hours talking on the beach. I felt so connected to the other volunteers, and even after other volunteering projects, the relationships made through Archelon are still the most valued.”
These are the reasons which have motivated her to represent us in such long distance away from Greece but so close to her heart. And she continues: “My time spent in Greece still resonates each summer that passes. I talk with others about sea turtles as often as possible. My passion for the environment and the protection of our oceans' animals was made stronger through Archelon's volunteer opportunities. Each morning survey brought new appreciation for my time there, but no matter how many nests we protected, the connections I made with nature and with others around the world were the most meaningful aspects of my time with Archelon. I would absolutely volunteer with Archelon again.”
Such amazing young people as Taylor continue spreading the word about their lifetime experience to others and giving us hope to continue working intensely for the protection of sea turtles.
