This year, ARCHELON will operate, in close co-operation with the Administrative Bodies of Amvrakikos Gulf and Messolonghi, an intensive program in the above areas, in order to investigate the role of these protected areas in the life cycle and ecology of the sea turtle Caretta Caretta.

| ||“Job Shadowing” in Sweden|
ARCHELON¢s volunteer officer and EVS coordinator, Theoni Karkoulia, was in Sweden within Youth in Action¢s “Job shadowing” program.
| ||IMMEDIATE NEED OF COOPERATION FOR THE SALVATION OF Kyparissia BAY|
In recent years at the Bay of Kyparissia and specifically in its southern part, which is the core area of the sea-turtle nesting habitat, there are pointed out facts that shrink the coastal forest, destroy the dunes and create “land-plots” for construction and sale.
| ||AN UNFAIR DEATH|
The alarm signal came from sensitized citizens who noticed an immobilized turtle at the surface off Tsilivi beach in Zakynthos. The Coast Guard notified ARCHELON and its volunteers moved immediately to the spot. The turtle was dead wrapped in a mess of fishing lines which were caught in rocks at the bottom of the sea.

“Water is not only of vital importance for all forms of life, and thus for the protection of the environment; its availability in sufficient quantity and quality is also a prerequisite for the development of human societies. It is thus at the heart of the concept of sustainable development, which brings together two fundamental aspects of society: the need to protect the environment and the need to improve people¢s living conditions
| ||The Field Leaders who will try to protect 2500 Caretta Caretta nests this summer were trained|
The Field Leaders¢ Training Seminar, each year, marks the beginning of the operating period of the ARCHELON Field programs.
During the past year, 422 volunteers coming from 28 different countries, based at the 7 Research Field Stations, which have been organized by ARCHELON, managed to protect 1.525 nests, thus helping 95.624 hatchlings reach the sea safely!

Ôhe experience here has been amazing! It is a real hands-on experience with the turtles. I have been able to work in all the aspects of sea turtle rehabilitation, including administering the required medication, treating the injuries, learning how to take biometric data, and observing turtle¢s behavior.
| ||Volunteers and Young Researchers – Working Together for a Better Future|
The students of Latsio Elementary School, as well as other student groups, who visit the Rescue Center, commit to sharing what they have learned within their respective school communities and often plan additional activities, events, exhibits to help build awareness for protecting sea turtles and their beaches. The young researchers participating on Saturday once again demonstrated how ARCHELON Rescue Center can provide worthwhile opportunities to support schools and teachers as they educate about environmental issues.
| ||An Art auction supports ARCHELON¢s efforts|
Our friends, Simone and Eckhard Kurth, who own the Art Gallery “Fine Arts” in Germany, have decided to auction the painting called "Happy Turtle" to support us.
The painting is called "Happy Turtle" and is the reason and the inspiration for the idea to start an internet auction for ARCHELON.
| ||We support Greenpeace campaign with our 660 fishing boats|
ARCHELON helped by informing students who visited the Rescue Center in March about Greenpeace¢s campaign. Each student signed a paper fishing boat and thus a 660 paper fleet was created which was handed over to Arctic Sunrise ship when it docked the marina of Flisvos on 6-8 April.
