 English Language Teachers meet ARCHELON

Approximately 500 English language teachers from Greece and abroad were introduced to ARCHELON at the TESOL Greece 33rd Annual Convention, which took place on March 17 and 18, 2012, at the Hellenic American Union in Athens.

 ARCHELON in Mexico

Every year, the International Sea Turtle Symposium is an appropriate event to present and discuss research results and conservation issues. Further, it is a unique occasion to meet with other people working with sea turtles around the world. This year the 32nd Symposium took place in Huatulco, Mexico, from 11 to 17 March 2012.

“I originally went for four weeks in June but enjoyed and missed it so much when I got back to the U.K. that I flew back out in September for two more weeks! I fully enjoyed meeting people from all over the world and learning about the Greek culture all the while knowing that I was putting my summer to good use and helping to make that small difference for a species that is unfortunately endangered!" ...I got to watch as this faithful mother dropped her eggs one by one. The process took ages, but that was for the better, as it took some time to set up the equipment. Besides, I wanted that time to prepare myself. When she was done laying her eggs and camouflaging her nest, we let her walk forward a bit and then, in the name of science, restrained her in a manner that was meant to have as little impact on the turtle as possible...

 ARCHELON joins TESOL Greeces Community Outreach Programme

We are pleased to announce that ARCHELON has become a participant in the TESOL Greece Community Outreach Programme. This collaboration will give ARCHELON the opportunity to introduce itself and its environmental education programmes to both local and international educators.
TESOL Greece (which is an acronym of Teachers of English to Speakers of Other Languages), is a local affiliate of the international, not-for-profit professional association headquartered in the U.S. The aim of TESOL Greeces Community Outreach Programme
is to help raise awareness among English Language teachers and students about current issues so that they can make wise, informed choices.

In the middle of the economic crisis ARCHELON continues the work for the protection of sea turtles. The field projects will open again in May 2012 and last until October. The submission of applications has already been started and to our great surprise there are many people interested in participating in our projects

It is well known that sea turtles are migratory. They feed and reproduce in different areas. Although these areas may be hundreds of kilometers apart, turtles manage to find them with remarkable ease. This is one of natures marvels. How do turtles manage to navigate at sea?
