| ||EVS in ARCHELON|
European Voluntary Service celebrates its 20 years for 2016 and continues to offer organizations and volunteers unique experiences.
This case is also ARCHELON, The Sea Turtle Society of Greece, which hosts currently some bright young EVS volunteers from all over EU. They get to offer their valuable assistance in protecting the nesting activity at Rethymno project and in rescuing injured sea turtles at ARCHELON’s Sea Turtle Rescue Centre.

The resident turtle population of Zakynthos is a great asset to the area from which, we can learn a lot scientifically and they are also an important source of income for the turtle spotting industry, especially at the end of the nesting season, when female turtles are gone.

We were very much saddened with the news of the loss of Dr. Luc Hoffmann, honorary vice-president of WWF International. His contribution in promoting nature conservation efforts in the Mediterranean region has been instrumental.

| ||Protecting the sea turtles of Koroni once more|
During the first morning survey on the 7th of June, the first nests of Caretta caretta were identified in Zaga-Memi beach by the volunteers, who applied protective measures around the nest in order to protect it from potential predators (e.g. dogs) and because of its proximity to an area of organised touristic uses (umbrellas, sunbeds).
| ||Why become a member of the Rescue Network?|
Only in 2016, in the Sea Turtle Rescue Center we have received 20 injured turtles from various areas of Greece. The National ARCHELON Rescue Network, which is staffed by ordinary citizens, Port staff, veterinarians, etc, undertakes the rescue of injured sea turtles. For their education “Rescue Volunteer” seminars are held every year.
