The Field Leaders¢ Training Seminar, each year, marks the beginning of the operating period of the ARCHELON Field programs.
Young volunteers, mainly scientists and naturalists from Greece and abroad, every year undertake specific areas of each region and commit morally to remain for 5 months at the nesting beaches in order to monitor and protect the Caretta Caretta nesting on the most important nesting beaches of our country.

ARCHELON¢s Earth Day event a great success

As part of the international campaign ¡Mobilize the Earth¢, which aims to increase public awareness about the sustainability of our planet, ARCHELON organized a special event on 22 April at our Sea Turtle Rescue Centre in Glyfada. The event was heavily attended by people of all ages, very popular, and most important of all, succeeded in raising awareness about the problems facing our planet and what we can do to help.

A shocking and gruesome sight

A shocking and gruesome spectacle was experienced by the divers of the Thessaloniki Dive Club when exploring the sea bottom outside Paliouri Peninsula in Halkidiki; in a depth of 35 meters they recognized something swinging strangely in the distance. Approaching they discovered that it was the decayed body of a sea turtle suspended by an anchored fishing line.

English Language Teachers meet ARCHELON

Approximately 500 English language teachers from Greece and abroad were introduced to ARCHELON at the TESOL Greece 33rd Annual Convention, which took place on March 17 and 18, 2012, at the Hellenic American Union in Athens.

ARCHELON in Mexico

Every year, the International Sea Turtle Symposium is an appropriate event to present and discuss research results and conservation issues. Further, it is a unique occasion to meet with other people working with sea turtles around the world. This year the 32nd Symposium took place in Huatulco, Mexico, from 11 to 17 March 2012.
