Zakynthos KTEL Buses offered generously their help ensuring the transportation of the injured turtles in Athens. Marina, Oasis, Rike and Jo were the turtles that were transported in Athens with the help of Zakynthos KTEL Buses.

On the 16th of September, a presentation evening took place at Louis Zante Beach hotel in Laganas, Zakynthos in order to inform tourists about the sea turtles that are currently being treated in the Rescue Centre of ARCHELON in Glyfada, Athens.

This was a very special discovery, as this nest had been missed in the morning and found in the evening. The team on the morning survey took pictures of the track, and showed them to me, and I had no doubt that there would be a nest under that camouflage.

I honestly believe the best way to help preserve a species is to inform as many people as possible in all the many ways they can help. This is exactly why the Public Awareness (PA) programme of Archelon is just as important as the monitoring work conducted on the beaches.

| ||Like a Turtle on its back: My Archelon Experience|
...I once heard conservation biology to be defined as ‘the integration of experience and empathy’ and this project fits perfectly with that description. My experience with Archelon woke me up from my individualistic worldview and set off a wave of empathy in me that will hopefully spread like disoriented hatchlings to encompass the entire globe.

I started my ARCHELON experience on the 15th of May 2015 and getting the opportunity to learn so much about monitoring and public awareness, working hands on with the beautiful loggerhead and meeting honestly , the most interesting, caring and just genuine people from all over the world, I can truly say it was the most amazing experience I have ever had in my life.

ARCHELON once more this year is hosting three incredible EVS volunteers in Rethymno programme in Crete. The EVS volunteers Vadim, Susana and Rosanna are three young persons who committed themselves for around 5 months to the protection of sea turtles.
