European Voluntary Service
ARCHELON acts as a hosting organisation
in the context of European Voluntary Service (EVS) for
many years. With this cooperation ARCHELON has the chance
to host long term volunteers something that is very important
for the appropriate protection of sea turtles. The
EVS volunteers get trained in the first few weeks of their
participation and then they are able to train the new short
term volunteers. They also can get more responsibilities
and help in the every day routine tasks.
Volunteers have come from various countries
like Finland, Sweden, UK, Germany, Austria, France, Hungary,
Polland etc.
Activities Information
ARCHELON
has been accredited to act as a hosting organization at
the Sea Turtle Rescue Center, in Zakyntho and in Crete
projects. EVS volunteers are normally needed from May to
October for the projects in Zakyntho and in Crete, while
at the Sea Turtle Rescue Center the periods are divided
in two. From February to July and August to January. For
more information of the tasks you can find in the general
information for
volunteers. More detailed ifnormation are given upon
selection.
Normally
ARCHELON participates at 1st October and
1st February deadlines
for EVS applications each year.
The final selection takes place approximately
two months before the deadline. The candidate EVS volunteers
are asked to send their CV and Cover Letter in volunteers@archelon.gr in
early November and
in early July each
year. It would be very helpful to give information for
the sending organization as well.
Please note that ARCHELON is unable to reply
to all the candidates and only the selected volunteers will
be contacted.
General Requirements
The EVS
volunteers are normally accepted for 6 months. All
volunteers must be over 18 years of age and have the ability
to work as part of a group. They must be able and willing
to carry out physical and demanding work outdoors, often
during the heat of the day or in mid-winter when it is
quite cold. No previous or relevant knowledge is required,
since training is provided for everything on site. Experience
in animal handling and skills like driving are useful,
but are in no way a prerequisite for final selection.
