WHAT WE DO

Environmental education

ARCHELON’s specially trained volunteers have been carrying out presentations in schools and sending out portable educational kits, since 1985. Thus, the loggerhead sea turtle (Caretta caretta) has become the most popular species of marine life in Greece and a flagship species for endangered wildlife.

Our approach is based on the recognition that we –humans– are sharing this same planet with all living creatures. Starting from sea turtles as an impetus, our Environmental education programme aims to communicate the basic functions of nature and the place of humans in it.

The Environmental education program at the Sea Turtle Rescue Centre in Glyfada is attended by more than 12,000 pupils every year. Presentations are given by staff and trained volunteers.
