Applications for participation of volunteers and field leaders for the projects in 2021 are now accepted!

Despite the adversity we are experiencing, we are determined to continue with ARCHELON’s projects in the best possible way in the New Year! We need enthusiastic volunteers to record and protect sea turtles, their nests and turtles on spawning beaches, and to continue rescuing and treating injured or sick turtles at the Rescue Center.

If you are willing to give time and energy for nature conservation and the environment, join us to spend a few weeks with people from different countries on a beach close to nature. See the volunteer projects in Zakynthos, Kyparissia, Koroni, Lakonikos, Rethymno, Chania and Messara and choose the area you are interested in. Each project has a different participation start and end dates.

"We hope to welcome many volunteers, especially as in 2020 it was not possible to accept many applications, due to the pandemic. The same goes for the students with internships whose participation was canceled", says Hara Papailiou, the Volunteer Officer. Internship agreements are available for the duties of the volunteers as well as the duties of the field leaders.

ARCHELON’s volunteering projects for 2021Another type of volunteering opportunities exists at the Sea Turtle Rescue Center of ARCHELON. If you want to help sea turtles that are injured or sick from pollution, plastics and deliberate human attacks, you can give your energy here. "The Rescue Center receives volunteers all year round. The help of volunteers in caring for the turtles, maintaining the Centre and raising public awareness, is invaluable. Their reward is the 30 recovered turtles which return to the sea each year. We also accept students of veterinary, veterinary care for internships. If you are a resident of Attica, your help as a local volunteer in environmental education, in maintenance, in the rescue network is also valuable ", says Dimitris Fytilis, the Rescue Centre Officer.

An exciting opportunity to monitor sea turtles in their feeding area in the Amvrakikos gulf, is also offered to a very small number of participants, but the dates are not available yet.

ARCHELON’s projects are an opportunity to show your interest in nature conservation and the environment. At the same time, you will get practical knowledge and experience in wildlife protection, biology, ecology, veterinary care but also human resource management and communication.

Before you apply, please read carefully the measures for COVID-19 taken by ARCHELON. We want to keep COVID-19 out of the projects.
