General information & Requirements

Welcome to ARCHELON’s volunteering projects in Greece!

With your help, we are monitoring and protecting sea turtles, their nests and hatchlings on the beaches as well as rescuing injured/sick sea turtles and treating them at the Rescue Centre.

We are inviting enthusiastic and committed individuals to join the volunteer projects in 2023. Read on and check out requirements and projects. Get to know our policies.

Important to know:

English is the language used in all the projects.
Anyone over 18 years of age can participate, subject to requirements.
Volunteer participation fees cover accommodation costs, administration and training costs, accident insurance coverage (up to a limit).
There are cancellation and change of date policies applied.
Internships for many academic fields can be arranged for all projects.
A specific number of Greek speaking volunteers is needed for the nesting beach projects.
Experienced people may consider volunteering for a Field leaders’ post.

Our projects

The Sea Turtle Rescue Centre

Join the Sea Turtle Rescue Centre. Get a close up interaction with these amazing creatures and help them to rehabilitate and return back to the sea.

Duration: All year round
Participation fee: from €570 (5 weeks- accommodation included)

Zakynthos

Protect one of the most important nesting areas of the loggerhead sea turtle (Caretta caretta) in the Mediterranean.

Duration: 5 May – 15 October
Participation fee: from €395 (4 weeks- accommodation included)

The Peloponnese - Kyparissia

Protect the nesting beaches of the largest loggerhead sea turtle population in the Mediterranean by joining ARCHELON’s sea turtle conservation program in Kyparissia bay.

Duration: 5 May – 30 September
Participation fee: from €395 (4 weeks- accommodation included)

The Peloponnese - Lakonikos

BECOME A VOLUNTEER and save the sea turtles in the beautiful beaches at Lakonikos bay.

Duration: 25 May – 30 September
Participation fee: from €395 (4 weeks- accommodation included)

The Peloponnese – Koroni

Protect the nesting activity of the loggerhead sea turtle (Caretta caretta) on the beaches of Koroni, in the southwestern Peloponnese.

Duration: 2 June – 25 September
Participation fee: from €395 45 weeks- accommodation included)

Crete - Rethymno

Protect the nesting activity of the loggerhead sea turtle by joining ARCHELON’s sea turtle conservation program in Rethymno.

Duration: 5 May – 12 October
Participation fee: from €395 (4 weeks- accommodation included)

Crete – Chania

Protect the nesting activity of the loggerhead sea turtle by joining ARCHELON’s sea turtle conservation program in Chania.

Duration: 15 May-4 October
Participation fee: from €395 (4 weeks- accommodation included)

Crete - Messara

Protect the nesting activity of the loggerhead sea turtle and its habitat in the bay of Messara, southern Crete, by joining ARCHELON’s sea turtle conservation program.

Duration: 29 May – 29 September
Participation fee: from €395 (4 weeks- accommodation included)

Amvrakikos

A unique opportunity to have direct contact with sea turtles as part of an on-going research project in this distinctive natural environment, in western Greece.

Duration: 28 June – 30 August
Participation fee: €700 (5 weeks accommodation included)
